| This work aimed to analyze the economical impacts generated by the biodiesel production through the input-output model analysis. Hence, it was defined the basic inputs used for the biodiesel production, especially the soybean oil and the castor oil plant both having a high potential to increase the production in Brazil and the ethanol (alcohol from sugar cane). Henceforth, an evaluation of the biodiesel sector in the input-output matrix of the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) to the year 1999 was started, considering the technical coefficients of the basic inputs and the biodiesel production. | O estudo buscou avaliar a contribuição do setor transporte para a economia brasileira. Especificamente, pretendeu-se determinar os setores capazes de propagar efeitos sistêmicos acima da média da economia como também mensurar os impactos econômicos na produção, emprego e renda, resultantes de alterações na demanda final. | The input-output (IO) analysis explores changes in final demand through the regional economy using multipliers. However, it isn’t flexible to investigate the regional impact from the capacity limitations which are directly imposed on production, not final demand. This is because the multipliers are changing with exogenous restrictions on production. Conventionally, the IO analysis is performed assuming exogenous production restrictions being the changes in final demands or assuming the sector being exogenous sector like the final demand. If researchers or policy makers are interested in only economic impacts from production restrictions, there is no need to look into the modified multipliers. | Este artigo apresenta os multiplicadores de empregos e renda diretos, indiretos e induzidos da economia brasileira, dando ênfase para a indústria de açúcar. O primeiro passo para a realização do trabalho foi estimar a matriz de insumo-produto do Brasil para 2004. Estimou-se que para cada 1 milhão de reais de aumento na demanda agregada a indústria de açúcar cria 27 empregos e 264,1 mil reais em renda. | This paper addresses the possible impact of rising smallholder incomes on local non-agricultural development in a case study area located in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. It determines how increased rural incomes are spent on a mix of goods and services, and debates the implications of these spending patterns for growth in rural areas through the alleviation of demand constraints. These results make it possible to identify areas of intervention necessary for sustaining growth originating from stimulus to tradable agriculture from economic reforms. This paper thus contributes to an emerging literature on the possible impact of promoting smallholder agriculture in South Africa on rural livelihoods. |
